Who does your organization benefit/serve?

The Bell Center serves infants and toddlers who are at risk for developmental delay. Children who attend The Bell Center have a wide range of diagnoses including Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, autism and rare genetic disorders. We also serve children who were born prematurely or as a part of multiples or children who are delayed but do not have a specific diagnosis. We serve approximately 100 children each year from throughout the central Alabama area. In our 33-year history, we have served more than 1,500 children.

What makes your organization unique?

The Bell Center is unique in that we provide early intervention services through a transdisciplinary team which includes a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, a speech-language pathologist and an early childhood special education teacher. Through this team approach, every developmental area is addressed each time a child attends The Bell Center. Also, we are a center-based program which allows children to receive services two or four times a week. We are completely privately funded which allows us flexibility in designing our programs.

I think The Bell Center is very deserving of the Uptick Marketing Magic City Makeover. We have a long history in our community, 33 years as previously mentioned, and we are a financially stable nonprofit organization. Uptick doesn’t have to worry that after pouring their resources into this makeover that the organization won’t be around in a few years. The Bell Center provides crucial services to families here, and children who attend The Bell Center in turn become important members of our community for years. Many young adults with special needs that you see working in the community – maybe your bagger at Publix, or your hostess at California Pizza Kitchen – are graduates of The Bell Center. Help us prepare The Bell Center for our next 33 years and the hundreds of children we will serve during that time.
