Florida/Alabama native Michael McDonald is Uptick’s Technical SEO Specialist (the non-famous Michael McDonald). Similarly to his famous name twin, OUR Michael McDonald knows his way around a keyboard—a computer keyboard, that is, but still, you get the picture.
Working mostly behind the scenes in his Uptick role, Michael solves technical problems and implements SEO improvements that help our clients’ websites perform better in search engine results and AI answers. He brings 15 years of advertising production experience, including work on photo and video shoots, traffic and project management, and programming as a front-end developer. His web development career started here in Birmingham, when he earned a certificate from the coding camp formerly known as Depot/U (now known as Covalence).
Not only is our Michael pretty good at speaking Korean, but he can also speak German, and he’s fluent in developer speak. His development and SEO knowledge makes him invaluable when it comes to analytics, search engine optimization, answer engine optimization, UX/UI, and website issues.
Michael has also served on the board of Birmingham’s chapter of the AAF (American Advertising Federation) for 12 years and won the Ann Halpern Award in 2016.
Michael spent time in Korea (it’s part of the reason why he knows Korean), which created a love of sushi and Seoul Korean food. If you have an Asian food craving and need a lunch partner, Michael is your guy. He’s also the one you want to be your Dungeons and Dragons Dungeon Master (DM) because he and his cats, Ruby and Jojo, throw some rager game nights full of fantasy, intrigue, and adventure.
