I started working for Uptick Marketing in Birmingham, Alabama back in November. At the time I thought I knew a little about digital marketing. Now that I’ve been working with the experts awhile, I realize that I really had no idea.
Digital marketing is not the future. It’s the present.
There are so many things we can do to drive traffic to a website and use the power of the Internet to help businesses succeed.
I Cringed at the Thought of SEO
One way we serve our clients is through search engine optimization (SEO).
Before working at Uptick, when I heard about SEO it made me think of those websites that sound super awkward. (Think “Our Seattle, WA bakers make the best Seattle, WA cupcakes in Seattle, WA.”)
Fortunately, that isn’t what we do at all at Uptick!
With our SEO strategies, we are able to create quality content, using keyword research, that doesn’t ever read as spam. (Look at this blog, for example. Can you pick out what keyword we are optimizing for?)
With Google’s search engine algorithms now being smarter than ever, you can no longer simply stuff keywords into your content and get good results.
With our tactics, your site can rank in searches and still make sense to the reader. Who knew?
Social Media Management? I Can Do That!
Another thing we do at Uptick Marketing is social media management.
I’m pretty savvy when it comes to social media. I’m on Facebook. I have an Instagram. I even blog. In fact, I take amazing selfies!
However, I did not realize how important social media marketing is for business nor did I understand how essential it is to have an intentional strategy.
There are amazing benefits for businesses who are on social media and utilize the platforms not only to engage with current and prospective customers, but also for those who utilize these platforms for inbound marketing (driving people to their websites).
The best thing yet? Advertising on social media platforms (such as Facebook) is ridiculously affordable.
In short, if you run a business and you don’t have a strategy in place for managing your social media, you need one.
What in the World is Ad Retargeting?
Know what ad retargeting is? If not, you’re not alone.
Before Uptick, I had no idea what ad retargeting was or that it even existed. However, I had apparently experienced it many times and I can guarantee you that you have as well.
Have you ever looked at something online and then, for several days afterwards, seen ads for that very thing? That is ad retargeting.
In short, this ad retargeting allows you to market to the people who have already shown interest in your product or service by visiting your website. Why this matters? There is NOT a better audience than the people who are looking for what you are selling already.
Happily Signing Off from My New Work Home
At the end of the day, I have been overwhelmed by the amazing results that we can provide to businesses with our array of services. The ones above are only the tip of the iceberg. We also offer everything from website caller ID (telling you which businesses visit your website) and lead nurturing campaigns (email drip campaigns) to local optimization (helping your business show up locally).
With our help, our clients are reaching their audience and I feel really good about that. I can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store for digital marketing, Uptick, and my experiences at my new work home in Birmingham.
