It’s a new year – which means it’s time to reevaluate your content marketing strategy! Chances are, you’ve already started thinking about this, and that’s great. Maybe you even have an updated strategy in place already. But just in case you’re struggling to adapt to content marketing for 2019, Uptick is here with some helpful tips. Read on!
#1: Write It Down
Most businesses don’t take the time to write down their content strategy. Maybe it feels too intimidating, or maybe they don’t feel confident about creating a strategy in the first place – but regardless, the strategy lives in their heads and not on paper.
When you’re creating a great content marketing strategy, the first step is to research your audience. Most people start at goal setting, but the truth is that until you know who you’re talking to, you can’t create an effective message for your business.
Research your audience, figure out how to reach them, and then set your goals – and document every step of the process so that you know where you’ve been and where you’re going.
#2: Quality Over Quantity
How many articles do you think you see every day online? A dozen? A hundred? The number of messages we are exposed to every day is astounding. Your business needs to rise above that and stand out – and the way to do that is by producing the highest quality content possible.
Find out what people are actually searching for. What does your audience want to know? Then, take it a step further. Look at the content your audience is finding when they search for this information. Are there gaps in the content that your business could fill in? Are there opportunities to address a unique angle on these topics that other companies aren’t writing about?
When you know what your audience is searching for and you provide that information in a high-quality format, they’ll come back to you again and again because now they view you as the expert.
#3: More than Just Words
Content is more visual than ever. Do the words matter? Absolutely. But there are other elements that you need to start thinking about, too. In fact, in 2019, it’s extremely hard to catch your audience’s attention without a visually appealing graphic.
Sometimes, that graphic is literally just a graphic – a flat image customized to the message you are trying to send. Other times, it may be a moving graphic or a video. Either way, your content must have excellent verbiage and excellent visual appeal – text alone isn’t going to cut it if you’re hoping to really engage your audience.
