It’s Time for Nonprofits to Start Thinking About GivingTuesday

GivingTuesday
It can be hard to think about the fall when it’s still blazing hot outside. Believe us, we know. But for the nonprofit industry, it’s time to start thinking about all that fundraising fun that comes with the cooler months. In particular, we want to focus on GivingTuesday and its amazing potential if you give it the attention it requires!

What Is GivingTuesday?

We’ve all heard of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. What better way to recover from all that spending and shopping than to give back to the community? GivingTuesday started back in 2012 as a way to encourage people to do good. Now, it’s an incredibly popular day of giving that is celebrated around the world.

Why Should I Participate?

The better question is: Why wouldn’t you participate? We’ve heard all kinds of reasons from nonprofit organizations in the past. It’s not worth the time. We never raise a lot of money. Our board members have never heard of it.
To all of this, we say: It’s always worth it. Even if your organization doesn’t raise a dime (but we obviously hope it does), then you’re missing out on the awareness that comes with adding your voice to this global day of giving. On this day, individuals are actively looking for ways to give back. You want to make sure that your organization is part of that conversation.

How Can I Get The Most Out Of GivingTuesday?

It may feel like GivingTuesday is a long time from now (really, who’s thinking about Thanksgiving when it’s 90° outside?), but this is the time to start making decisions. How involved will your organization be? What are your goals? Who is going to lead your campaign?
With enough planning and effort, a GivingTuesday campaign can have a dramatic impact on your organization. It can allow you to attract new donors, raise more money, and bring more attention to your mission.
