What’s Trending? What to Expect in 2023 for Your Marketing

The new year is a time to reset, plan, and organize. That’s especially true when it comes to marketing for your business. If you haven’t already started thinking about how you’re going to boost your impact this year, then it’s not too late to get started. Here are the biggest marketing trends in 2023 to keep in mind.

Artificial Intelligence

The next 2023 marketing trend to watch for also sounds like it stepped out of a sci-fi novel. But artificial intelligence (AI) is already a staple in the digital marketing world. Algorithms are responsible for deciding when, where, and what ads you see when scrolling through your favorite apps or websites. (Not to discount the digital advertisers working behind the scenes.) AI makes digital marketing easier, smarter, and cheaper than traditional alternatives.

So, what to look out for in 2023? Keep an eye on how AI is changing. Use your understanding of AI and algorithms to influence your overall strategies.

Metaverse

Ever since Facebook changed its name to Meta, the metaverse has been a subject of discussion in the digital marketing world. In 2023, we don’t expect that to change. The metaverse is a catchall for the virtual experiences available online. Some brands—like Nike, Vans, and Balenciaga—have already dipped their feet into the metaverse by offering “direct-to-avatar” digital products.

While this approach isn’t feasible or practical for most businesses, now is the time to start thinking about how your business could theoretically operate in the metaverse. If you’re having trouble, don’t stress too much. A lot of the metaverse is still experimental and ever-changing.

Clear, Concise Messaging

There is a never-ending supply of content out there for consumers to, well, consume. That means you have to provide value in a short amount of time to hook your audience. This can be a challenge for businesses that have a lot to say.

Expert copywriters can get the idea across in a short, simple message. Focus on providing the resources and support they need to produce short soundbites needed to stay relevant and noticed.

Short Videos

By now, there’s no denying that short-form videos are the now and future of social media marketing. TikTok took the social media state by storm and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. In fact, TikTok continues to be the most engaging social media app, with users spending more than double the amount of time per session than other apps. Instagram is also embracing this change by adjusting its algorithm to focus on its short-form videos, Reels.

If you’re not already producing this content for your business, now is the time to start. Start by watching TikToks and Reels to better understand the trends and format. (Pro tip: Set a timer when you start scrolling. It’s easy to lose an hour or more to the scroll, which is why they’re so popular!)
