IGTV Ads: What You Need to Know

If you’re scrolling on Instagram these days, you’ve probably noticed the social media platform starting to roll out content in long-video formats, also known as IGTV. While YouTube was first to monetize creators, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram are all catching up and coming up with their own creative ways for creators to earn money.
So, stop your scrolling, and read on to find out more about IGTV ads.

Introducing: IGTV Ads

This is the first time creators will be able to make money directly from IGTV since its launch in 2018. Along with the earlier release of Instagram’s Shopping from Creators for feed posts and stories, the addition of IGTV ads gives creators access to a full-fledged money-making platform. These IGTV ads will be mobile-optimized and last up to 15 seconds long, with a swipe up feature to automatically take viewers straight to the brand’s website.
In their latest press release, Instagram shared that they will continue testing various IGTV options, “such as the ability to skip ads,” to ensure the IGTV ads work for their users, creators, and advertisers alike.

How Much Will Creators Make?

As popular as Instagram is, its IGTV content is often skimmed over. One of the main reasons for this is due to its lack of monetization options. YouTube, for example, pays YouTubers anywhere from $3 to $10 per 1,000 video views. Instagram, on the other hand, hasn’t paid its creators a dime for IGTV content since its launch. Oof.
Now, in 2020, the platform is really striving to change this by finally giving its creators the compensation they deserve (rightfully so!). Creators already put an incredible amount of time and effort into their content, so it’s crucial that they’re able to make that money back to fuel their future work.
Recently, Instagram has shared that they have more plans in the works to continue prioritizing monetization features in the coming months. Before they can do this, they first need to win over popular creators, a.k.a. pay them.

IGTV Ads Have Incredible Potential––Use It!

YouTube is an important platform for gaining money through videography, creative vlogging, DIYs, tutorials––and so much more. Now, with the same speed, IGTV has the potential to grow with a competitive revenue-sharing model. Like YouTube, IGTV is an incredible channel to showcase products, DIYs, makeup tutorials, clothing hauls––the kind of content that grabs your attention and can help build long-term relationships with your audience.
With Instagram continuing to roll out new IGTV features––this time with revenue––there’s no better time to upgrade your social media strategy when it comes to Instagram.
