¡HICA! serves the Hispanic and immigrant community in Alabama. ¡HICA! is a community development advocacy organization that champions economic equality, civic engagement, and social justice for Hispanic families in Alabama. Through its programs, ¡HICA! facilitates Hispanic families’ integration into their new community, builds strong communities, opens doors to education and entrepreneurship, and makes Birmingham a more welcoming city. This work is performed by four inter-connected bilingual and bicultural teams. A trusted, deep-rooted community institution, ¡HICA! empowers over 3,000 Hispanic families every year across Central Alabama.

What makes your organization unique?

¡HICA! is the largest and most robust organization in Alabama serving the Hispanic community. Our work moves on a continuum from connecting families with basic services to community development, including college readiness, citizenship, and small business development. ¡HICA! is the only organization in Alabama that’s specifically focused on serving the Hispanic community.

We are a starting point for newcomers and Alabama residents who have been the victim of a crime. We’ve become known within the Hispanic community as a place with an answer for nearly any problem facing our constituents.

¡HICA! is the only organization in Alabama that’s specifically focused on serving the Hispanic community. This year ¡HICA! will be turning 20 years old. The work that has been done by this organization throughout these 20 years, should not go unnoticed.

¡HICA! Could not do the work that it has done without the constant help and support of the Greater Birmingham area community.

¡HICA! deserves the Uptick Marketing Magic City Makeover as to promote the value of integration of all Birmingham communities. By working with the Uptick family during these changing times a proper marketing campaign will be able to spread the word of our mission and vision to the city of Birmingham. Our goal is to educate both communities, and demonstrate the benefits that an entire community can get from the social, civil and economic integration for Hispanics families.
